My computer does not have a DVD Drive. How can I install SoftPlan on a computer that does not have a DVD Drive?

You can connect to another computer that has a DVD drive across a network, or copy the disk contents to an external drive such as a flash drive and install it from there.

Can I bring only my system settings from an earlier version of SoftPlan into my current SoftPlan install?

SoftPlan will allow you to restore selected parts of a backup created in another copy of SoftPlan (the same version or earlier). Select File > System Options > Archive. Place a check beside Configuration and press Restore. Exit SoftPlan and then open SoftPlan again to load the new settings. This will restore your System Option settings without replacing any other current version information.

I’ve purchased a new computer. Prior to installing the new SoftPlan Version, do I need to install the older versions of SoftPlan I own?

No, each version of SoftPlan is individual and does not require that previous versions be installed to operate.

How do I update my old Version to my new upgrade?

These versions are to be installed separately, not as an update. When prompted during installation from the CD to choose the type of setup, choose Typical Installation. This will install the new SoftPlan under its own directory.

How do the Automatic Updates work?

Update patches are automatically applied when SoftPlan is run on a computer which is connected to the Internet and the File > System Options... > Setup Options > Automatically Check for Updates option is enabled (checked). If the SoftPlan version is current, SoftPlan will only check for updates once a day when it is first started. If the SoftPlan version is not current, SoftPlan will check for and apply an update patch each time it is started until the version is current. Thereafter it will only check once each day. A Checking for Updates dialog will be shown during the program start up process, prompting you to download and install the update patch. If a connection to the Internet cannot be established or if the update server is busy, SoftPlan will attempt to connect each time it is started until a connection is established. Thereafter it will behave as outlined above.

Can I install my new SoftPlan Version on my computer and still use the old SoftPlan Version?

Yes, the new SoftPlan Version is a separate program from the old version. Both can work on the same computer independently of one another.

I reinstalled SoftPlan and now when I attempt to open my drawings I receive the message “This drawing was created with a newer version of SoftPlan. It can not be read by this version.”

This indicates that your previous SoftPlan installation was updated to a newer release after it was installed from the program disk.
To update your SoftPlan program, click on the Check for Updates button on the System Options... Setup Options dialog. It may be necessary to repeat this process several times in order to update SoftPlan to a release able to open your drawings.
Alternatively, download update patches from the Technical Support area of the SoftPlan website, following the installation instructions provided on the download page.  Again, it may be necessary to download and install more than one patch in order to update SoftPlan to a release able to open your drawings.
