2017 National Association of Home Builders Student Competition
The annual student competition was one of the highlights of the 2017 International Builders' Show, and this year, SoftPlan students stole the show. Each team that placed in the competition were users of the SoftPlan program. This included the 1st Place winners of the York County School of Technology (PA), 2nd Place Shelby County High School (KY),and in 3rd, Shadow Ridge High School-Team 1 (AZ). Shadow Ridge also received the Rookie of the Year award. These students spent countless hours perfecting their drawings, and we are so proud of their well deserved accomplishments.
For the competiton, these students were presented with a real life industry job. This year, the students were asked to prepare a plan for a project located in the Foxtail Estates Community in Eagle, Idaho. The Students will be part of a team that is an outside construction management contractor proposing to Tresidio Homes, one of five custom home builders active in this property. The students then begin to prepare for the competiton, completing all the tasks a professional contractor would do. These include creating the plans, figuring out material and labor estimates, as well as creating a construciton schedule. Once all of this was prepared, the students gave a verbal presentation to a panel of judges compiled of residential building industry professionals, to show off all the hard work these students put into this competition. These students created professional quality drawings from scratch, and proved that they can overcome any task within the industry. SoftPlan is so proud to be the software used to teach these students about residential design, and can't wait to see whats in store for their future!
As well as having all three teams place, we had one more SoftPlan team to make history at NAHB Student Competition this year. A team from Shadow Ridge High School made up of all females entered the competition for the first time in the history of the competition! We are so proud of these ladies for all their hard work and dedication they put in this year, and hope to see more of them in the future!
At least one team from Shadow Ridge High School will be back for the 2018 RCMC in Orlando, FL. This team will consist of three of the female students and one male from the RCMC 3rd Place team from Shadow Ridge. This time…we’ll be using Softplan 2018 Pro!
